Frequently asked questions

How does ELSS save tax?

An Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) is a mutual fund that qualifies for a deduction under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act (old regime). Investing up to ₹1.5 lakh in a financial year can reduce your taxable income by that amount, lowering your tax by up to ₹46,800 in the 30% slab. ELSS has a 3-year lock-in — the shortest among 80C options.

Is the 80C benefit available in the new tax regime?

No. The Section 80C deduction (including ELSS) is available only under the old tax regime. If you have opted for the new regime, you do not get this deduction. Please check which regime applies to you.

Are ELSS returns guaranteed?

No. ELSS invests in equity markets, so returns vary and are not guaranteed. The projected value here is only an illustration at the return you enter. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks.
